The Stang and other small climbs

Report by Mick Gettings

Along day in the saddle everybody covered well over 100 miles . A tough hard day in a blustery head wind for most of the day 5 of the team and two guest riders had an epic day out in Yorkshire. Leaving Gt Ayton at 8am we head towards Yarm and out to Barnard Castle, the first of many coffee stops . After a well earned cuppa we’re heading out over to Reeth taking on the epic climb of the Stang. A breif stop in Reeth for a pie and a fluid top up, then it was the tough climb of cote de Grinton featured in the TDF when it visited our humble abode. One of the guys punctured half way up but we soon had it sorted , then it was the long decent to Leyburn, a little rest for the legs .After a chewy head wind and a climb we dropped in to Catterick, home of the British Army . After the flatish miles into Richmond, a historic market town, it was coffee stop en a refuel . Then the hard 25 mile slog back to Ayton which was made much harder by the strong headwind, a few tired legs started to show but the stronger riders rallied round and got the team home. A good hard day under our belts with a little under 6wks to go.
